It is impossible to determine the exact date and the specific match that started the scarf mania in football. It is known, however, that its origins should be sought in England in the early 1900s. It is worth mentioning what the fashion on the pitch looked like at that time. Firstly, subdued colors in the gray-brown palette dominated. The fans did not stand out from ordinary passers-by on the streets. Interestingly, football players also most often wore... different jerseys, even in one team. Slowly, however, this began to change. As football matches became more professional, some changes were made. And so the rules for wearing uniform jerseys in single color or stripes were introduced.
The changes also affected the fans, but it happened rather spontaneously. Well, individual fans wanted to show their support for the team through small color accents – usually ribbons or pieces of fabric attached to a hat or jacket collar. At the same time, it should be remembered that in those days many matches took place in autumn and winter. The English weather therefore required warm clothing. Soon, scarves that fans used to cover their necks began to be used as... fan attributes. Clever housewives were able to turn balls of colorful wool into belts, and later into crests, for their men's favorite teams.
In this way, soccer scarves have become a mandatory accessory in stadiums, regardless of the weather. Because this gadget is no longer an element of clothing, but has become a universal element by which you can recognize a football fan. Today, scarves are made by machines and are often valuable collector's items.
As the example of the Pro Scarves company shows, although many years have passed since hand-knitted scarves, contemporary accessories still refer to their origins. However, what distinguishes them from these traditional models is the high quality and high resolution of patterns and colors. Today, the customer can order a custom-made gadget with his own name and selected graphic symbol. Interestingly, this type of scarves in the US is also appreciated by fans of other sports: hockey, football or rugby.Date: 2023-11-21
